For Families

Safety is built in six layers deep.

Every design decision in Vibe Coding Game Studio starts with one question: is this safe for an 11-year-old? Here's how we answer it.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

1. Kid-safe AI tools only

Students do not browse the open internet. All AI tools are pre-vetted, kid-appropriate, and accessed through a supervised studio environment. There is no unrestricted chat with public AI services.

๐Ÿค–

2. Automated chat moderation

Every message sent to the AI mentor is scanned before the AI responds. If a message contains personal information (phone numbers, addresses, social handles) or unsafe topics, it is flagged, the student receives a gentle redirect, and the instructor is notified.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

3. Human instructor oversight

Instructors review flagged messages daily. They can pause a student's chat access, follow up one-on-one, and escalate concerns to parents or Harper College staff when appropriate.

4. Parent transcript access

Every parent/guardian can view their child's full chat transcript through the Family Portal. Flagged messages are highlighted. Parents can also request deletion of any message or the entire transcript.

5. No data for ads or profiling

We do not use student data for advertising, behavioral profiling, or third-party targeting. Student work is only used for program improvement with explicit, anonymized consent.

6. Mandatory reporter policy

All instructors are trained as mandatory reporters under Illinois law. Any disclosure suggesting a student is at risk of harm is escalated immediately to the appropriate authorities and to parents/guardians.

Common questions
Can my child talk to other students through the platform?+

No. The only chat interface is the AI mentor. There is no peer-to-peer messaging, forum, or comment system. Collaboration happens in-person during studio time.

What happens if my child shares personal information in chat?+

The message is automatically flagged, the AI responds with a redirect, and you receive a notification. The message remains visible to you in the transcript (highlighted) but is hidden from the student's own chat view after the session.

Can I delete my child's data?+

Yes. Email inzone@harpercollege.edu at any time to request full deletion. We process deletion requests within 5 business days.

Who else can see my child's chat transcript?+

Only you (the enrolled parent/guardian), the program instructors, and designated safety staff. Other parents cannot see your child's data.

What if my child sees something inappropriate in an AI response?+

AI responses are also scanned. If an inappropriate response slips through, the student can report it immediately, and instructors are notified automatically. We investigate every report within 24 hours.

Still have concerns?

We are happy to walk through our safety architecture with you before you enroll.
